Five Minute Friday; Word Prompt {Fix}

Five Minute Friday; Word Prompt {Fix}

This post is part of the Five Minute Friday blog link-up ( Five Minute Friday link-up).Where I join up with a community of writers and bloggers of all ages and stages who gather around a single word prompt to freewrite, unscripted, unedited, for five minutes. Todays word prompt is {Fix}

Oh boy, Kate said fix. Well there are so many things to write about that need fixed. I could go on about society and humanity but I would end up on a soap box or end up in a rant. That’s not where I’m going today. Besides Jesus came to fix us and he’s coming back to bring us into eternity with him.

I like to pray about the word prompts, then sleep on it. My thoughts were swirling last night as I went to bed. I prayed for clarity, guidance, wisdom and understanding. This one was a tough one for me.

Merriam-Webster describes the word Fix as 1a: to make firm, stable, or stationary . 1b: to give a permanent or final form to. 2a: to hold or direct steadily. Also, repair or restore.

My soul has been a bit weary lately, and I have been intentionally pausing to reflect and meditate on fixing my eyes on Jesus. He is the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:2).

I fix my eyes on Jesus, I lay down every weight and burden. Sometimes we know that it’s easier said than done. But seeking Him and his wisdom through Scripture and knowing that it is God breathed from beginning to end is comforting.

It allows me to fix my eyes on his words, and because the Bible is our life instruction manual I know that I can find an answer for anything, I can find peace and comfort, wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Fixing my eyes on Jesus reminds me that he is right there beside me. He holds his hand out to me as he did for Peter when I need help.

“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLT)

  1. Paula, what a great way to write about the word “fix”! I’m afraid I would have been stuck where you started about all the things that need “fixed” around me and in my life! But the direction you took is beautiful! Fixing our eyes on Jesus, His words and who He is changes everything!

  2. I am with you some words are really challenging. You smashed this one:). From one weary soul to another my eyes are fixed on Jesus. Communities like this encourage and help us through as one family in Christ. God bless Loretta #4 x

  3. I definitely need to do this more. It is hard sometimes when life’s problems are flashy and draw our attention away from Christ, but we are called to do so, and so I believe we can.

  4. The deal is done, the fix is in,
    ’twas sealed in the upper room;
    God done washed away our sin
    and walked out of His tomb!
    The fix is in, the deal is done,
    and we’d been set free
    when to the Cross had gone the Son,
    for you, and you, and me!
    It’s all been taken care of, mate,
    ol’ God has rigged the game,
    and henceorth you won’t be the bait
    for hell, and nowt will be the same
    because God changed the rules, to win…
    I tell you, mate, the fix is in!

  5. Paula, this word prompt was easy for me – isn’t it weird how some words cause us to hit a brick wall? Yours are always good posts.
